Monofilm Concrete Evaporation Reducer and Monofilm RTU extend the time available for concrete finishing during hot, dry and windy conditions. Designed to be sprayed onto freshly placed concrete flatwork, Monofilm forms a temporary monomolecular film across the concrete surface that dramatically reduces moisture evaporation — up to 80% in windy conditions and up to 40% in direct sunlight. By slowing surface moisture loss, Monofilm helps reduce plastic shrinkage cracking, surface crusting, moisture-related spalling, and premature surface drying that can negatively impact concrete quality and finishing performance.
More concrete can be effectively placed with less labor during adversely hot, dry and/or windy conditions without jeopardizing overall concrete quality. Use Monofilm concrete moisture evaporation reducer on all types of concrete flat work, including air entrained, low slump, superplastersized, latex modified and concrete containing pozzolans such as fly ash, blast furnace slag or silica fume.
Monofilm is also ideal for decorative concrete applications, helping extend working time for integral color, color hardener, textured, and stamped concrete during challenging hot weather placements.
Monofilm is recommended for use on all types of concrete flatwork, including:
- Air-entrained concrete
- Low-slump concrete
- Superplasticized concrete
- Latex-modified concrete
- Type IL / Type 1L cement concrete
- Concrete containing fly ash, silica fume, slag cement, or other pozzolans
Monofilm is especially effective when concrete surface evaporation rates exceed bleed water generation, such as during:
- Hot weather concreting
- Low humidity conditions
- High winds
- Direct sunlight exposure
- Large slab placements
- Industrial floor construction
- Tilt-up casting slabs
- Decorative concrete placements
Advantages of this Concrete Moisture Evaporation Reducer
- Meets all federal and state VOC requirements
- Significantly improves the concrete surface strength, abrasion resistance and durability
- Allows for more finishing time in hot, dry and windy conditions
- Monofilm’s protective layer lasts as long as the concrete remains plastic. This allows the necessary amount of working time to achieve an acceptable finish, regardless of successive floating and troweling operations
- Does not interfere with the normal cement hydration process or subsequent application of floor sealers, paints, coatings or patching materials
- Contains a highly visible fluorescent dye for easy, uniform application
- Available in a concentrate or ready-to-use version
Available Versions
- Monofilm — Concentrated formula for dilution on-site with potable water (1:9 ratio – 1 part Monofilm to 9 parts water)
- Monofilm RTU — Ready-to-use formula for convenient field application
